I was really rooting for Scarlett and Rhett, but she continuously just kept pushing him away. At the end, of the book, I was just left in a state of shock. It was well-written and the characters were well-developed. The ending really annoyed me, but overall, the book wasn’t bad. Scarlett is completely obsessed with Ashley and it literally took the death of 2 husbands and the rejection of the third to realize how she didn’t love Ashley, but that he was just a comfort for her. Although, this did show me the complexity of being human.

She just expects people to wait around for her, but that's not the reality. It took the rejection from the man she really loved to realize everything she had done. She only cares about money and her status and pushes away anyone who can love her. She is probably one of the most selfish characters I have ever read about.

She got on my nerves more times than I can count. I really struggled to connect with Scarlett as well. Through more complicated events, Scarlett realizes she lost everything. Rhett saves Ashley and brings him home and then marries Scarlett. Her husband and Ashley go out to kill the men who did it and her husband is killed in the process. A lot of complicated stuff happens after this, but the event that changes the entire novel is when Scarlett is attacked. When the war ends, Scarlett might lose her plantation so in a desperate attempt to save it, she begs Rhett to marry her and he refuses. With the help of Rhett Scarlett is able to go home with a sick Melaine and the baby. With the chaos of war and people getting sick, Scarlett gets stuck in Atlanta and delivers Melanie’s baby. But then, Ashley comes to town and kisses Scarlett before he finds out his wife is pregnant. Their relationship gets complicated and he asks Scarlett to be his mistress.

It is here where Scarlett sees Rhett Butler, the man she met a while back. So, to cheer up, she goes to Atlanta with Ashley’s wife. The character becomes depressed and desperately misses Ashley, the man she really loves. Scarlett’s husband ends up dying two months after he went to war and then Scarlett has her son. Then the civil war starts and chaos for the character really pick up. Angry and hurt, Scarlett accepts a proposal from Charles. His feelings are reciprocated, but he tells her that they cannot marry. When she gets alone with him, she confesses her love. Two weeks later, she is at a barbecue where she flirts with every man in sight to make Ashley jealous. It is obvious she is a shameless flirt, and the man she loves is getting married. It is during this scene that you really learn about Scarlett.

The book starts out with Scarlett hanging out with the Tarleton twins. The reader follows the character Scarlett O’Hara.
